Pax Check: Moroccan airports switch to 100% digital boarding passes

The National Airports Office (ONDA), now operating under the brand Airports of Morocco, has just rolled out a system called “Pax Check” that allows passengers to use a fully digital boarding pass, accessible directly from their smartphone.

How does the procedure work?

The principle is simple and relies on an already well-established digital continuity: booking, check-in, flight information. The main steps are already carried out online. Pax Check extends this experience right into the airport. Specifically, after checking in online, travelers receive their boarding pass in the form of a secure QR code.

Document checks are carried out in advance by the airlines, in accordance with regulatory requirements, which then allows passengers to pass through security checkpoints and automated gates more quickly, without having to present any paper documents. The system will be deployed gradually: it will be progressively extended to airlines that meet the required technical, operational, and regulatory conditions.

The expected benefits are numerous. According to Airports of Morocco, this development reduces document handling, facilitates movement within the terminals, and contributes to a more comfortable airport experience, all while maintaining the highest standards of safety and security, in accordance with national and international guidelines. No more stress about a lost or crumpled printed ticket: the smartphone becomes the sole travel companion, from booking to boarding.

This challenge is particularly important with the approach of the 2030 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal. The North African country expects a large influx of fans, journalists and international delegations and needs airport infrastructure to cope with an unprecedented number of passengers.
