Royal Air Maroc goes paperless in the cockpit with Thales

The national carrier will equip its aircraft with a next-generation flight tablet.

Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is continuing its technological upgrade. The airline will equip its aircraft with the Avio Book Flight electronic flight bag solution developed by Thales. Pilots will have access to the bulk of their flight documentation, previously largely paper-based or scattered across multiple tools, on the device.

According to Thales, the software is designed to streamline workflows for both flight crews and ground teams, help optimize fuel consumption, and reduce turnaround times. For an airline with operations spanning Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, the Americas and Asia, these operational gains are significant. Every minute saved during a stopover and every liter of jet fuel conserved has a direct impact on punctuality and costs.

A fleet undergoing major transformation

This announcement is part of a broader strategy. RAM currently operates a fleet of around 70 aircraft and aims to reach 200 planes by 2037. Multiple projects are underway simultaneously. During the Marrakech Air Show (held October 7–10), RAM and Boeing signed an agreement to refurbish the cabins of its seven Boeing 787-8s, featuring new seats, a modernized entertainment system, and Starlink internet connectivity. The airline also announced plans to equip its entire fleet with high-speed internet and to take delivery of additional Embraer E190 aircraft.
